Welcome to Robonoob – Adventures in Robotics

I have always been fascinated with Robots. Long have i tried to rationalize buying a robot kit and put it together. But I could never justify the cost to build a robot, to  have it walk about a bit and then relegate it to the shelf sitting forlorn and unused.

I have been to a couple of robot wars here in San Francisco and it is always fun to see these metal bots beat the snot out of each other. But I grew up playing Mech Wars. I wanted my bot to stand on two legs and have these hugely oversized guns for pummeling the crap out of opponents! Then I happened to stumble across a video of a biped “mech” replete with airsoft canons, knocking the crap out of targets. It was very cool to watch. I was even more amped when I saw that there was a whole MechWarefare addition to the robot games where these diminutive bots could create havoc.

Browsing the Lynxmotion and Trossenrobitics boards soon led me to make the fateful leap – my first bot.

So that is what this site is all about, one person’s struggle to go from robonoob to bot master. I will keep track of the building and costs as I create Nomous-580, the name of my bot which will compete in the April games.
